Chow Fired by the Titans

The Tennessee Titans fired offensive coordinator Norm Chow after three seasons with the team, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Tuesday.The Titans finished the regular season 10-6 and suffered a 17-6 loss to the San Diego Chargers in the first round of the playoffs. They finished 10th in the AFC in total yards.
Chow, who was previously the offensive coordinator at USC, was interviewed for UCLA's head coach opening in December but withdrew his name from consideration. The Bruins went on to hire Rick Neuheisel.

I am not seeing Chow going to ucla, even some of the fans across town think it’s a long shot. Slick Rick is a bit of a QB guru in his own right so why have two chefs in the kitchen. Rick is all about Rick and I have a hard time believing Chow would want to go through that all over again.
The amount of money he is making now makes it difficult for ucla to pay him close to what he is making. I am also not sure that he would want to go to ucla to be an OC when he was essentially ignored for the HC position so I’m just not seeing it happening. I also have a hard time believing that Chow would take the job just to stick it to SC that really isn’t his style.
Less important but more interesting is that he was fired from Tennessee for not "developing" Vince Young. Young had the worst statistics in the league and he had a bit of a sophomore slump. I remember all the Texas fans saying that VY will thrive in the NFL if the coach just gets out of the way. Well the problem with that thought process is that the opposing defense will figure out your tells and counter your moves. VY needs to develop into a better passer and I think he can do that given time, but when one of the best QB developers out there can’t fix your ills what does that say about you? Norm Chow didn’t get dumb overnight so it would be hypocritical to say he failed as a developer of QB’s but then tout him as being just that t a different job. VY isn’t able to do what he did in college because the game is faster at this level so he needs to develop into a better passer to help spread defense out then use his running ability to balance his attack.
Chow still has it no doubt I’m just not sure that ucla is a good fit for him.

My only comfort are my LOLs from reading Nestor and his lackeys latching on to their "holier than thou" ucla is heaven attitude and death to the evil USC attitudes.
If UCLA was so great, why continue comparing itself to such a bad and inferior university like USC :(

RE: the NFL pension, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the people who are quoting the 4 year pension requirement in the NFL are thinking about the players' benefits.
For coaches, it's different. A coach has to be in the league for 15 years before they are eligible to begin drawing a pension. Chow's only been in the NFL for two years, so there's no way he's ever going to draw an NFL pension.
Basically, there's no monetary reason why Chow wouldn't go to UCLA - at least right now. Two years from now and it's s different story, but I'd love to have him as an OC.
Chow is already back in LA
Before all the bruins get it in their heads that Norm might want to become OC for your program for some revenge against PC, you should know that Norm left on very, very good terms with the athletic department, coach Pete Carroll, and AD Mike Garrett.
My gut feeling is that Norm will pursue another OC job in the NFL, or a HC job in college. Should there be any openings for HC in USC's future I would expect that Chow would be the first to interview for the position.
But in the end the only person that truly knows what Norm's next move is is Norm himself. I believe he will go where the best financial deal for him and his family. The possibility of being a head coach is the only thing that will turn him away from a higher paying job. As far as returning to college as an OC, I think its probably more likly that he will be a Trojan OC, before he is a bruin OC. But anything is possible at this point.
Titans' loss, is ANYONE'S gain!
- Woodengate? That's just a very sad oversight of complaint. That it's gotten to a formal inquiry is ridiculous.
- Fallout from "Tarnished Heisman"? Doesn't take a USC or UCLA degree to figure out that EVERYONE has an opinion on that- regardless of facts and documentations.
- Norton staying on at USC? It's quite a relief knowing that Norton remains loyal to Coach Pete Carroll. Even if it's only for one more year, so that he can see his Fab Two (4?) through until their final year of eligibility. Maualuga, Cushing, (and Maiava & Matthews) are his coup de grace and has proven Coach Ken Norton's worth as teacher/coach/leader.
- Chow's firing from the Tennessee Titans? Wow! Talk about left field. But not really. Although the Titans made the playoffs and the player personnel was iffy (they need a better O-Line, healthier one at least), their offensive numbers weren't exactly eye-popping. That, and their abysmal showing against the Chargers was their downfall. He'll end up somewhere. He's too good to not be devising complex X's and O's for someone.
It was almost surreal to me, this past CFB season bordered on the absurd. Man, was it a situation to be placed in the #2 slot in national CFB polls.
It's no wonder that FOOTBALL has supplanted baseball as America's favorite pastime for sport. The only thing left to uncover in a calendar year of coverage is DOPING!
Let's hope football doesn't get skewered like baseball and cycling is currently.
When's the CFB season start again. Can't wait.
