Week 3 review - Big East

Up until the last week, 7 of 8 Big East members were undefeated starting the season 2-0. Last week, we saw couple of BE bubbles burst, but overall the conference is pretty deep and challenging to allow anyone to go undefeated. I think the main contenders will be WVU and Rutgers. Cincy may be a player if they keep doing outstanding job on D. Ditto for USF. UL doesn't have any defense so expect them to drop couple more games. UConn's record is deceptive and I doubt they'll go bowling. Lastly, pathetic Syracuse couldn't even beat ND.

West Virginia (3-0): The Mountaineers have an unbelievable running game with a deadly White / Slaton / Devine combo. They have a pretty good receiver in D. Reynard. However, I'd like to see them play one of the top defensive teams in the Big East, namely Cincinnati, S. Florida or Rutgers. So far, WVU had 3 wins; however they struggled against weak Marshall team (which lost to Div-1aa team last week). Next weeks East Carolina game shouldn't be too challenging, but we'll find out how good WVU when they play USF in Tampa.

Rutgers (3-0): RU fans are enjoying second consecutive year in top-25 as Scarlet Knights sprinted out to 3-0 start. Ray Rice was good, but I have to note some stat padding by Greg Schiano. The last second TD vs Navy and 3 TO's up 42-0 against Norfolk state looked a bit classless. Their next 2 games should be a good test for RU as they get to play middle-of-the-road ACC team and seek to avenge their loss against Cincinnati. Too early to tell whether RU's high ranking is justified.

South Florida (2-0): USF finally got ranked despite having a bye-week. Their big win @Auburn doesn't look very impressive now since Auburn lost to pathetic Miss State the week-after. We'll see how good the Bulls are as they play UNC this week and WVU the week after. The special teams play was shaky, but O and D was pretty good against Auburn.

Cincinnati (3-0): I am one of the few, who is drinking Bearcat Kool-Aid - I was very impressed by their D. They shut down OSU completely and demolished opponents in every single game. I personally believe that Cincy should be ranked. We won't learn much about them in the next two weeks as they get to play against winless Marshall and SDSU. The Bearcats will have a tough stretch consisting of games @RU, vs. Louisville, @Pitt, @USF. I think Cincy goes bowling for sure and will surprise some teams in the Big East.

Connecticut (3-0): UConn is one the weakest undefeated teams in the Div-1a. They should have lost to Temple last week, but the blind refs stole the game away from the Owls in the last second (I didn't know they allowed blind men in the review booth). In other two games, UConn beat hapless Duke and Div-1aa Maine. The bubble is set to burst this week at Pittsburgh. UConn will win 6 games at most, but I think 5 is the right number.

Louisville (2-1): At last the lack of any D caught up with the Cardinals. In-state rival crashed UL's hopes of BCS championship game with a great performance from Andre Woodson. But if anyone followed Louisville, they would have seen it coming as their D couldn't stop Middle Tennessee's running game. I think UL will drop couple more games unless they do something magical with their D.

Pittsburgh (2-1): Pitt is gradually improving as Panther's young talent is beginning to make impact. RB LeSean McCoy is a stud and I believe Pat Bostick may soon take QB spot. Current starter K. Smith was terrible against Michigan State. I think Pitt will finally go bowling as wins vs. UConn, @Virginia, vs. Navy, and vs. Syracuse seem perfectly possible. In addition, I think Panthers will find a way to beat one of WVU, UL, RU, Cincy or USF.

Syracuse (0-3): I struggle to find more pathetic, dull, boring, and weaker team in BCS than Syracuse. At least Duke got some excitement in its game (and actually won!). Watching Syracuse is even more boring that watching the paint dry. Syracuse was blown out in each of their 3 games and they didn't really play any powerhouse teams. I expect G. Robinson era to end this year.
