Moody transfers out....USC down to 9 Tailbacks!

As reported by Scott Wolf, Emmanuel Moody transfered out of USC tonight (Wednesday on the west coast), possibly for Oklahoma State. Moody was the second leading rusher last season before being sidelined for the final 4 games with an ankle sprain.

I am not quite sure what to make out of this. There has obviously been a lot of transfer speculation regarding the running back position which is now down to 9 scholarship tailbacks: Chauncey Washington, Hershel Dennis, Desmond Reed, Stafon "the Prince" Johnson, Allen "the Beast" Bradford, C.J. Gable, Joe McKnight, Broderick Green and Marc Tyler. However, I am still a little suprised in light of Moody's comments from a recent article I read:

"When it comes game time, I know there's only going to be one person out there on the field. Just one guy, with just one football. And the other guys aren't going to be there, and that's where it's going to be chaos for the ones on the sidelines. If it's me there, then it's me."

Well obviously that won't be the case this season, although he will be waiting on the sidellines for a different team due to NCAA transfer rules. Maybe Moody felt the heat from the competition, or didn't think he would get meaningful reps with his injury (bruised knee), or maybe it is a combination of the two. Either way USC is still loaded at the position and should have more than enough talent to fill out the depth chart. I guess that in Moody's absence, guys like Gable and McKnight will get his carries. Well, I wish Moody the best and I'm anxious to see how the tailback position sorts itself out during training camp and throughout the season.

Fight On!!

Are the other RBs getting itchy too?
I posted something similar to this elsewhere, but I was looking for an SC pov.  Year after year SC gets a serious influx of talent at RB (yes I am jealous).  Is there any speculation that when a starter is named some of the other guys will follow Moody's lead and begin to look around?

There wont be a "starter" this year
There's just not going to be one running back taking more than half the carries on this team.  My guess is that Chauncey, Gable, Dennis, and McKnight will all see significant time with Johnson, and Bradford getting in to block and catch a pass or two.

Too much talent, not enough carries for anyone to take the job for their own.

And then there were nine
Yea I dont believe that there will be a running back with half the carries although there might be one with close to half of the total production. There's just too much talent. Theoretically speaking, I wander if Pete would like every man on the roster to be a 4 or 5 star recruit. But i guess we'll find out soon enough...

Anyways, I expect big things from Marc Tyler, if the position isn't settled after his redshirt year. Broderick Green is gonna be like Landale and hopefully Gable can build on a productive year.
