Blog Rivalry
I was over at "the other blog" today, catching up on my latest dose of hate and narcissism. When I was done, I scrolled down to the links, as I normally do, to head over here. However, much to my surprise and amusement, Conquest Chronicles is no longer anywhere to be found.
What's up with that?
This blog is pretty mild when it comes to fighting words. Mostly you (Paragon) focus on SC sports and when UCLA happens to be brought up, you tend to be pretty respectful.
Obviously this is no biggie. They have the right to do whatever they want and frankly no one here cares.
I guess I'm just wondering how thick the kool-aid is over there...
Update [2007-4-19 3:47:2 by Paragon SC]: Comments have been disabled in this thread so things don't get out of hand.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Conquest Chronicles' writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Conquest Chronicles' writers or editors.

Blog rivalry? Don't you have to steal something from us to start a rivalry? :)

I couldn't care less...
When I started this site I was naive to think that I could have any sort of civil discourse with BN. Early on as the new guy on the block at SBN I was tested quickly when one commenter decided to take a shot at Nestor. I had two choices, 1 - support my SBN colleague who had endorsed my coming to SBN but who also has alienated himself from every other SC blogger out there with his hateful and sanctimonious tone or 2 - hop on the hate bandwagon by allowing said commentors comments to stand thus endorsing that kind of tone.
Obviously, I took the former as I chose not to get in the gutter and it cost me with a couple of high-profile SC bloggers as they have hardly if ever participated here or have seldom given us a link back here from their sites. That's fine we all do things differently and I have only given it a cursory glance in the rearview mirror. I did attempt very recently to have a dialogue with one of those bloggers as I asked for his guidance on how to proceed in order to mend fences; my request has been met with silence, hardly a class move in my opinion as I ALWAYS answer any email sent to me. When people take the time out to send you a message I feel it's my responsibility to at least acknowledge them with a response. The only time I haven't is when a couple of emails came from Nestor with a tone that was clearly trying to pick a fight, sometimes you just have to ignore that type of tone. But like I said that's in the rearview mirror.
Nestor's brand of writing simply encourages a mob mentality that I would prefer not to have here on CC. I realize that arguments should be backed up with fact but merely having an opinion that one may disagree with shouldn't start a range war because its contrary to the collective mindset as these forums are supposed to encourage civil discourse. Telling a commenter to F*** off just because you feel he hasn't based his opinion on fact, or that you may disagree with in my opinion is petty and childish.
In the end we are on our own track here. They will do things their way and we do things our way. There really isn't a rivalry as our missions are different. I don't have to like something or someone in order to have respect for it but that also means I don't have to endorse it either.
Like I said, I really couldn't care less.

good point
If it works out that you can't have civil discourse with certain bloggers, then that's a shame, but as long as you keep doing what you've been doing, such discussions can hopefully be had with posters who come here, regardless of their affiliation.
This blog feels a lot more like Burnt Orange Nation than it does the other blog, and that's a darn good thing in my book.

You don't know the whole story...
I understand where you are coming from in your comments above but they are based only on what you see written in public and not what goes on behind the scenes. I'm not throwing stones I'm doing what he would do on his site, basing my observations on facts that I have.
The author of this diary made an observation and others commented on it and I attempted to fill in the holes. If the host over there doesn't want us listed in is blogroll that is fine but I will continue to list ucla blogs on my blogroll regardless of what I feel about them personally as I will always want people to have a choice in where they get their information and have a free exchange of ideas as well as having the ability to look at another point of view. To me that is far more important than whether or not you agree with me.
So lets leave it at that and move on. There are plenty of other more important things to discuss.

This is an old subject
Some of his stories are so ridiculous that I wonder if hes joking. He actually posted the phone numberes for the NCAA and PAC-10 and encouraged the bruin faithful to call and complain about a barbeque that a USC donor had provided for the team.
Not every donor is like "Papa" Sam Gilbert.
