Men's hockey wins Pac-8 tourney

And the bRuins are officially 0-3 on the day...life is good.

First, their men drop a game at WVU.  Next, our women take care of business at home.  Finally, they lost 12-9 to ASU in the Pac-8 hockey tournament, being the only team to lose both games.

It was weird...I bought tickets to a fight, and while I was there, a hockey game broke out!  Even better, we beat Oregon 4-3 in sudden death overtime to win the tournament.

This was pretty sweet

The game itself was absolutely fantastic.  After going up 1-0 early, we found ourselves in a fight as the ducks posted a goal to tie.  Originally, the band was supposed to play, however, upon arriving at the game, we were informed that floor policy expressly forbid us from doing so.  So, we bought tickets (grumble grumble) and cheered the team on.

Personally, I have never watched a game of hockey in my life, so i'm just going to ignore in-depth analysis...I'm incapable of rendering sound judgment, so I won't even try.

The Ducks came back to tie the game at 1, and then penalties heavily set back both teams' rhythm.  For a good portion of the 1st period, the floor only had 6 players (and 2 keepers) on the ice, which is apparently very rare.  Its also unexciting, especially when the referees lose track of who has how many penalty minutes, and stop the game for a 15-minute zamboni break.

After that, the men of Troy went up yet again, before suffering a potentially disastrous minute where the ducks scored twice, putting the score at 3-2 ducks.  In the final period, we kept taking shots, and kept missing shots.

With 2:19 left in the game, one of the duck players was called for a foul, giving us a 5 vs 4 power play.  At the 1 minute mark, we pulled our keeper, and sent in our 6th forward.  The very necessary gamble worked, and we put a shot in the goal with under a minute to play.

The ducks then gave the entire trojan contingent a minor heart-attack when they almost scored with about 20 seconds left.  However, the defense held, and we were off to overtime.

As OT began, UofO had a great opportunity in front of the net, but somehow, our keeper managed to stop it.  A small fight could have broken out, but the refs cleared it up beforehand.  With 46 seconds left in the OT period, one of our forwards slashed in, got open, and let loose a missile of a shot that clenched the game, and won us our 2nd consecutive Pac-8 title.

Since the tournament was hosted by the bRuins, and we were given permission to play outside of the building, we left, played some rock charts, and played a lot of TUSK.  And when a car full of bRuins tried to hit us, we followed that car around, while playing TUSK.

That song never gets old...

Fight on Men of Troy!  Congratulations on a hard-earned victory!
